The STEP files available here are synthetic models that have been tested in the CAx Implementor Forum. These files have been
checked for 'syntax' and 'structure', to be in conformance with the Application Protocols (EXPRESS schemas) they are instantiated
against.
The Application Protocol 203 Edition 2 schema that the following files are based on can be found here:
The Application Protocol 214 schemas that the following files are based on can be found here:
Additionally, these files have also been "checked" for conformance with the various Recommended Practices in the scope of
CAx-IF Testing, and have been successfully post-processed (imported) by the majority of the CAx-IF Participants.
PDES, Inc. and ProSTEP iViP are providing these STEP files to organizations interested in implementing the STEP standard. PDES, Inc.
and ProSTEP iViP are not making any claims about the quality, performance, or usability of the STEP files. Users can import the files
at their own risk.
Geometric Validation Properties
'Geometric Validation Properties' are a capability to verify the geometry data exchange via STEP. The native system
calculates a number of key properties for the CAD model (volume, surface area, center of gravity) and writes them as numeric values
into the STEP file. The importing system, after creating the geometry from the file, also computes those properties and compares the
results with values given in the STEP file. The deviations give a measurement of the exchange quality. The functionality is described in:

Colors, 3D Annotations, Unicode characters
'Colors' refers to the capability to style solids, surfaces and edges in a CAD model. '3D Annotations' allow to
display text strings in the 3D model. These may be styled (color, font) and associated with the geometry. 'Unicode' allows to include
special characters (e.g. Asian) within the annotations. The functionality is described in:

Cannot apply edge colour in UG. Separate curves created for each relevant edge and styled blue. Hence no over riding edge colour. |
External References
'External References' refers to the capability to split an assembly into several STEP files during import. For
each part used in the assembly, one geometry STEP is created. The assembly structure is written to either one separate STEP file, or
it is also split into several files, where each files contains one level of the assembly tree. The latter approach is refered to as
'nested external references'. The functionality is described in:

Material Identification and Density
'Material Identification and Density' refers to the capability to transfer basic information about the material a part is manufactured
from in the STEP file. Both a basic, primarily informational, and an advanced approach is given. The latter is the preferred one, and
used in the STEP files available below. It ensures interoperability with both PDM and CAE implementations. Therefore, the material is
given as a product with a relationship to the part, and the density is defined as a property of the material.
The functionality is described in:

Supplemental Geometry
When designing a part in a CAD system, geometrical elements are often created that do not
belong to the actual, i.e. manufactured, shape of the part or assembly, but are used to either
create other geometric shapes, or to carry additional information about the part or assembly. These elements
are - in accordance with e.g. ASME Y14.41 - called 'Supplemental Geometry'.
